Supporting a book, and the couple behind it

Here's a pitch - to my blog-audience with a special shout to the New York readers. The book, and my friends/its writers, will take it from there.

Good friends (R's first, I laid claim), Micah Garen and Marie-Helene Carleton are an extraordinary, brave, warm, camera-wielding and odds-beating couple. You'd want to know them, you'd evesdrop on their conversation and find a way to introduce yourself if you happened to be seated next to them, you'd fall for their Turkey-adopted dog, Zeugma.

Their book American Hostage releases next week and chronicles the tale of Micah's kidnapping last year from a market in Nasiriyah. Told in their alternating voices, Micah's in captivity and Marie-Helene's own hell here as she moved from the shattering news to securing his release, American Hostage is a world-scale tale, on a human-scale canvas.

The details of the book tour can be found on their site, but the gist on the local:

Next Wednesday, October 12th at 7pm
At Borders, Time Warner Building (Columbus Circle).

Lobby escalators to the first floor (bypass Whole Foods).

Hoping to see you all there to support this amazing couple + book.

(The photo - Micah's I think - is of the Ziggurat of Ur, west of Nasiriya, and so is not unrelated. But, nevertheless, a rare + seized chance to post a ziggurat.)
