Sikkim/Bulgaria

And there's the rub.

When my head's not in Bulgaria, it's deeply in Sikkim – leaping awkwardly from sea to cloud-level, icon to thangka, feta to momos etc.

There may well be lots of us with this allegiance to disparate masters. Travelers are seduced by place names so why not insist that Borobudur share fantasy-space with Bahrain, Tuvalu with Nagaland.

We know a lot, too much, have instant-access to more information about the world's farthest corners than the entire combined knowledge of every Explorers Club member to-date.

So why not link the heretofor un-linkable.

It's invigorating as an exercise.

To this world of been-there's, wherein Bhutan's "done" and Croatia on its 16th minute, falling for an eastern Block Balkan nation, at the same time your heart roams somewhere in the Himalayan foothills, is like keeping two lovers.

(Try booking a trip Sofia-Gangtok then tell me they can ever be of the same itinerary, or from the same brain, or booked via Expedia without a meltdown).

Or maybe this isn't so novel at all.

Maybe it's just the hyper-specialization that this era demands.
