Idyll ends
Like all good things but this one's a little more painful than most.
And for what civic use tomorrow? - Jury Duty. 8:45 at some courthouse way downtown, to serve my duty when I've really been very happy serving only myself.
Good come-uppance.
Beach picnic (checking off the annual favorites) this morning at Sandy Beach. Dense fog, chilly and part of beach roped off for some demonstration of "the creatures of the inter-tidal zones" by Park Rangers. Each time we looked over there'd be a ranger in a funny costume (starfish v. cute) and the kids and parents waving hands back and forth like, I suppose, seaweed.
Fed half bagel to a brave and snaggle-beaked sea gull, drank coffee from turn-of-century (mercury lined?) thermoses kept in perfect nick by grandaddy. Found two sand dollars (they're everywhere this summer) then, with swing by Jordan Pond to stock up on Maine-y gift-y stuff (balsam saches, blueberry jam and like theme-y things), we were back here.
And since I've been cleaning and making 5 beds, each with top and bottom sheets, blankets, decorative cotton covers (serve no other use) and bed spreads. Enormous pain. Next year may donate queen size beds (we've come of age) and duvets at own expense.
And in 1-1/2 hour to Bangor. Need to spend at least some time on beach, communing with rocks, fox and nature, before then...
